Onze chansons et onzième album pour le groupe culte de New-York, mené par Jennifer Charles et Oren Bloedow.

Enregistré dans les montagnes des abords de Woodstock, Pink Air a été fi- nalisé dans le studio de Thomas Bartlett (The National, Sufjan Stevens) à Manhattan. Une même onde rock unit les morceaux de sa réverbération caverneuse, comme enveloppée dans l’obscurité d’un night club ou épinglée à l’ombre d’un cauchemar moderne.

Pink Air est une escapade rock’n roll post-apocalyptique. L’album aborde des thèmes aussi variés que la menace écologique, le régime d’un narcissique dictateur en puissance, la suprématie blanche, la censure, l’effacement de l’histoire, le drame social des familles... aussi bien que des méditations sur le temps, l’amitié, la perte, la mort. En dépit d’un ton mordant, le propos ne sonne jamais trop pesant, allégé par de nombreuses touches d’humour.

Le chant de Jennifer Charles est à son plus haut, insufflant à chaque morceau son légendaire charisme languissant, dans un souffle lyrique dont le pouvoir d’envoûtement est resté intact. En dépeignant le paysage du temps présent avec ses paroles précises, souvent caustiques, Jennifer pose son voile si par- ticulier sur l’intime, le spirituel, brossant ses personnages, amis et amants, dans un pur style de romancière. Le tout sur un arrière fond de peur de notre époque, de ses dérives sociales et politiques.

Avec Elysian Fields, l’angélique chanteuse et ses acolytes ont toujours été portés par les courants les plus élevés du ciel. Pour Pink Air, ils rangent leurs ailes, se posent au sol et sillonnent les terres brûlées de l’Amérique, animés par l’esprit rock’n roll de l’animal. Les plumes se sont transformées en autant de poils hérissés.

Elysian Fields- a difficult act to categorize. More or less a hybrid between dream pop and indie folk on this album, still with their subtly jazzy touch.
