"Dès le départ, j’ai voulu faire un album qui rétablisse ma foi dans la musique et ma foi dans le monde. C’est un exercice que je devais faire seul et pour lequel j’ai choisi une forme de musique qui me touche depuis toujours : le rembetiko. Celui que je connais est une musique de vérité. Toutes les chansons de l’album obéissent à cette loi.
J’ai commencé par écrire la musique, essentiellement modale, sans suite d’accords. J’ai ensuite développé une technique de guitare qui donne le rythme et la mélodie. J’ai utilisé les anciens modes musicaux et les mesures spécifiques pour créer le Son avant le Verbe. Puis les paroles sont venues – et elles sont venues des Ombres, de l’au-delà : The Other Side. Dans cet album, le chanteur est un personnage des Enfers qui ressent le besoin de nous parler.

C’est la prémisse de cet album. Je l’ai enregistré dans mon studio : une guitare, un micro et une voix en prise directe – sans traitement du son. Ce que vous entendez est ce moment de vérité brute.

C’est ma contribution à la forme du chant Rembetiko. Sans intention de ‘revival’, sans nostalgie. Plutôt un poème moderne issu de poussières ancestrales. Une chair nouvelle couvrant de vieux os." JIM YAMOURIDIS
